Being stopped by the police is rarely a positive experience. And regardless of whether you’ve done something wrong or not, nervousness usually creeps in: “Did I forget to signal a turn? Am I speeding…?”
One day when Chy-Niece was on her way to a job interview, something happened that filled her with dread. She saw the blue lights coming by and quickly realized that the police were signalling for her to pull over.
The fact that she was stressed and nervous before her interview didn’t help matters.
But she wasn’t driving too fast, and she had used her signals at every turn, so what could she have done wrong?
After picking up her papers and her driving license she rolled down the window. What happened next is spreading like wildfire on the internet – and for all the right reasons.
Instead of being aggressive, Officer Jenkins explained that Chy-Niece’s brake light was broken. This news was stressful – the very last thing she needed right now was an expensive fine and having to pay for the repair.
But instead of starting to print the fine, the officer did something that Chy-Niece couldn’t believe.
Here’s what she wrote about the incident on Facebook:
“So this happened just now. I’m on my way to go to my interview this morning when I get pulled. Both break lights decided to go out this time. As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said,
‘Don’t worry about pulling anything out. I just want you to know your break lights are out.’
So I’m immediately upset, because I just got them replaced last month. So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car.
He looked at me (like he knew this was crazy) and told me to pop the trunk.
He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn’t come on. So he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one.
He could have easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of officer role and into mechanic role to make sure I was straight.”
With all the terrible things going on in the world, I love reading a story that has a happy ending.
Going the extra step and showing some humanity instead of just following the rule book can really make a difference to someone.
A huge thumbs up to Officer Jenkins, who instead of ruining Chy-Niece’s day with an expensive fine, took time to help her.
After she published the story on Facebook it received over 420 000 likes and nearly 100 000 shares.
This is without a doubt proof that we all love to read about acts of kindness and humanity between us all.

But despite the fact that these gentle giants would never even harm a fly, some humans still believe that it’s okay to mistreat or kill elephants, often to get hold of their expensive tusks. The ivory trade is illegal in many countries, but poachers sell their goods on the black market for a huge profit, and heart-breakingly, this practice is still very much a current issue.
In this next story, an elephant was tragically shot in the head by poachers, and the bullet was inches away from taking his life. But luckily, he knew who he could trust for help, and went onto make a great recovery.
Whilst he was still tranquilized, the vets performed surgery on the lucky elephant to remove the bullet.
Once they were finished, they waited until Pretty Boy woke up again and watched to make sure he was doing okay after the surgery. But the elephant was still pretty tired, and he had only made it a couple of steps before he fell asleep looking pretty comical with his trunk against a tree.
Pretty Boy probably had a bit of a headache – but thanks to the help from the vets, he was going to make a full recovery! We hope that the poachers leave this beautiful animal alone from now on. Watch the video of how Pretty Boy was treated below.
